Planning Your Visit
Everything you need to know before arriving at Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech
Independent Information Notice
This page provides general visitor guidance compiled from publicly available sources. Opening hours, entrance fees, and policies are subject to change. Always verify current details directly with the official garden authority before your visit.
Getting to Jardin Majorelle
Jardin Majorelle is located at Rue Yves Saint Laurent in the Guéliz neighbourhood of Marrakech, approximately 15 minutes on foot from the city's main Jemaa el-Fna square. The garden sits in the northern part of the new city, making it easily accessible by multiple transport options from most hotels and riads in the medina.
The most convenient and widely used option for visitors is the petit taxi. Marrakech's small orange-coloured taxis operate on metered fares, and a journey from Jemaa el-Fna to the garden entrance typically costs between 20 and 40 Moroccan dirhams depending on traffic conditions. Always ensure the driver starts the meter at the beginning of your journey and agree on any flat rate before departure if preferred.
City buses also connect the garden area with the central medina. Bus routes 11 and 14 serve the Guéliz district and stop within walking distance of the garden. However, first-time visitors to Marrakech may find the taxi option simpler and more direct, particularly when travelling with bags, photography equipment, or young children.
For visitors arriving by car, limited street parking is available on Rue Yves Saint Laurent and adjacent streets. Parking conditions can be congested during peak visitor periods, so allowing additional time for finding a space is advisable, particularly on weekends and public holidays.
Opening Hours & Visitor Information
General Opening Hours
Jardin Majorelle typically opens daily from 8:00 in the morning. Standard closing time is approximately 17:30, though extended summer hours may apply during peak tourist season from June through September. The garden is open throughout the year, including on most Moroccan public holidays, though hours on specific holidays may vary. Always check the official website for confirmed current hours before your visit.
Best Time to Visit
The most comfortable visiting periods in terms of climate are spring, from March through May, and autumn, from September through November. Summer temperatures in Marrakech can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, making early morning visits particularly important during July and August. Winter months offer pleasant temperatures but shorter daylight hours. Weekday morning visits, particularly on Tuesdays through Thursdays, typically offer the quietest conditions.
Visitor Guidelines
Visitors are requested to respect the garden's plants and pathways, refrain from picking flowers or touching botanical specimens, and maintain a respectful noise level that allows others to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Photography is permitted for personal use. Selfie sticks, professional lighting equipment, and tripods may require prior authorisation from the garden administration. Smoking is not permitted within the garden boundaries.
What to Bring and Wear
Practical Packing Tips
Marrakech's climate can be demanding, particularly during the summer months when the sun is intense and temperatures remain high throughout the day. Even during spring and autumn, midday sun within the garden can be strong due to the predominantly open pathways and reflective surfaces. We strongly recommend bringing sun cream with a high protection factor, sunglasses, and a hat or light scarf for shade.
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are advisable as the garden pathways are paved but can be uneven in places. Light, breathable clothing is ideal, and modest dress is culturally appropriate in Moroccan public spaces. Bringing a small bottle of water is recommended, particularly during warmer months, as the garden's internal facilities have limited refreshment options.
If you intend to photograph the garden, consider arriving with a fully charged battery and sufficient memory card space. The interplay of vivid blue buildings, colourful plants, and dappled morning light creates exceptional photographic opportunities. A wide-angle lens works particularly well for capturing the garden's architectural features in context with the surrounding botanical plantings.
Accessibility Information
Jardin Majorelle has made improvements to its visitor accessibility in recent years. The main pathways are mostly paved and suitable for wheelchair users, though some areas of the garden feature stepped sections or narrower pathways that may present challenges. Visitors with mobility limitations are advised to contact the garden administration in advance to discuss their specific needs and receive current accessibility guidance.
The garden does not currently offer dedicated audio guide equipment for visitors with visual impairments, though our guided tours can be adapted to provide verbal descriptions of botanical features and architectural elements in greater detail. Please contact us in advance if you require a specially adapted tour experience.
Children are welcome throughout the garden, and the diversity of plant life, colourful architecture, and open spaces make it an engaging experience for young visitors. The garden does not have dedicated play areas, so adult supervision is required at all times, particularly near the water features and planted beds.
Recommended Visit Duration
Most visitors spend between one and two hours exploring Jardin Majorelle and the Berber Museum combined. Visitors with a strong interest in botany, photography, or cultural history often find that two to three hours allows a more satisfying and unhurried experience. If you plan to visit the adjacent Yves Saint Laurent Museum on the same day, allow a full half-day for the combined experience.
Guided tours with Jardin Omaëlle SARL typically run for 90 minutes and cover the garden's main botanical zones, the architectural history of the site, and the cultural significance of the Berber Museum collection. Private tours can be extended upon request to accommodate visitors who wish to spend more time in specific areas of the garden.
